Post 10: English Language Challenges

I already studied English at school very intensely, but I had not spoken or had classes for four years. So the experience of having this subject has been very nutritious, the work in class was fun and also I’ve met very nice people who I didn’t know before. Using the blogs has been very challenging because I’m good at speaking or thinking in English, but I felt very insecure at the time of writing words. A lot of times I had a word in my mind and then I wrote it but I wasn’t sure, so I searched the right way and I was right, I was just very insecure of this activity because there’s been years since I didn’t write in English. Also it has been interesting the exercise of writing about me, about my life, what I like or what I feel, I think I’ve got to know myself better. I really need to improve my grammar and orthography. My plan to do this is to watch all my series with English subtitles, because I believe it’s a great exercise to improve everything, also the listening and speaking, th...

Post 9: Changes to my Study Programme

My career is Film Studies. I think iI have good and bad things to say about it. First of all I think the whole career is badly raised for being in communication faculty instead of arts faculty. I strongly believe that arts do not necessarily have to communicate something. So, starting over there, our curriculum has a lot of subjects in common with journalism. Some of them have been very interesting, I really appreciate the fact of being forced to read. But nevertheless, I think two theoretical subjects about communication PER SEMESTER is too much for us. Considering that our profession is very practical and we spent A LOT of time making our films in the workshop subject. We have also theoretical subjects about cinema, which are very great, but the workload is really hard. Besides, the length of the career is very long, five years and you get your certification just the sixth year since you started all of this. I believe all of this issues could be resolved if we had a lot less journal...

Post 7: Current Issues

A few days ago, a new album was released on the internet. It is called “Núcleo Distante” and it’s a collaborative work made by 22 musicians from 10 different countries of Latin America. The particularity of this  album is that all of the 22 published songs were recorded with the cellphones of the musicians and sent to a WhatsApp group. I have chosen this issue because I am really into music and composition, and I’m always in the search of new referents and new methodologies for making music, of course considering the infinity of alternatives that technology gives us nowadays. That’s why I think this is very important, arts are always moving on, arts are about innovation and making sense of all the facts and stuff that is around us. This is very inspiring to me because I feel this is like a resistance issue, against commercial music and all of that people who profits with this, people who has forgotten (or never thought) that music is not a business. And also to the sound standards ...

Post 8: An Artist I love

Imagen
Lately I’ve been very obsessed with an argentine writer called Alejandra Pizarnik. She is the darkest poetess I ever read... very intense but, for that reason, she explores very deep feelings. She was born in 1936, she studied Philosophy, Journalism and Literature, but she left all of them before finishing to dedicate to write. After that she lived in Paris with all the cosmopolitan artists of her time, like Julio Cortázar. She ended killing herself at the age of 36 years old with an overdose. I started reading her Complete Poetry a few years ago, but since September this year what I’ve been reading is her diary, which she wrote at my age. It is very surprising to me to discover all her complex thoughts and feelings. She always talks about writing a novel, what she never got to do, and this diary is written in a very special way, like a poetic prose but also a stream of consciousness. It is really inspiring to me, because I love poetry and I do poetry when I write my songs, I think it...

Post 6: Postgraduate Studies

When I finished school it was very hard to me to make a decision between studying music or film studies. Finally I took the second one, but I never left music. I continued with singing classes and I studied musical composition for two years while I was at university. Now that I’m close to the end of this career, I’ve been thinking about studying a second one, which would be singing interpretation, because I’m still young and curious about learning and getting more tools to be a great artist. I would like to study this in a professional institute in Santiago, called Projazz. I like it there because I had the chance to go when I took the exams four years ago, and it was a really nice place, full of talented people and good vibes. They have a focus on teaching jazz music and that seems really interesting to me. Something that really inspires me are the subjects I would have: jazz ensemble, popular music ensemble, acting, dancing, music history, jazz history, vocal improvisation… All sound...

Post 5: My Future Job

Imagen
I imagine myself in the future working as an editor, maybe because I am already doing that. I discovered that editing was my thing when I was at school, but university has helped me understand the complexity of this job and get a lot of tools. I like it because it requires a lot of intellectual work, besides all the technical stuff that I learned happily because I am a nerd when it comes to this. What I like the most is that I am good at it, so it makes me feel fulfilled. This job is absolutely indoors. I kind of like that because I am allowed to work at home, even in pajamas and no one would notice. Actually I have invested in very good electronic equipment and softwares in order to work at home in the future. I don’t think it is a job in which you can travel a lot, because you need your equipment to work, but I really consider that it could be an easy work, when you do publicity, so I could’ve time to do other things that I love, like travel or make music. The most interesting editin...
